We invite you to contribute to a special exhibition at the Marubi National Museum of Photography, dedicated to reviving the visual memory of the Old Bazaar of Shkodra.

The museum holds several historic glass negatives of the bazaar—once a lively hub of trade and craftsmanship, nestled at the foot of Kalaja e Rozafës—captured by the Marubi photographers. Now, we’re reaching beyond the archive, seeking vernacular photographs taken by all kinds of photographers

Do you or your family have old photos of the Old Bazaar?

We are especially looking for:

• Photographs featuring the Old Bazaar and its surroundings
• Photographs showing shops, buildings, crafts, street life or people in and around the bazaar
• Any information, stories, or memories you can share about what is on the photographs: the location, people, events, the photographer or context.

Whether clear or blurry, posed or spontaneous —they are all valuable pieces of visual information in our larger story.

Why This Matters
The Old Bazaar, once the vibrant heart of Shkodra’s social and commercial life, has been lost. The area has changed, but with your help, we can rebuild a visual archive to preserve its role in Shkodra’s identity for future generations.

How to Contribute

• Bring your photographs to the museum (they will be safely returned)
• Please include any known details: approximate date, location, names of people (if known), and any stories or memories you’d like to share.
• Let us know if you’d like to be credited in the exhibition.
• If the above is not possible: scan or photograph your old photographs (high resolution preferred) and send them to us via info@marubi.gov.al
• Deadline: 19 May 2025
• Selected contributions may be featured in the exhibition, possible publication, or future traveling exhibitions (with your permission)
• All participants will be invited to the opening
